I don't know if you have found such a situation that most of the PCB boards are green, and the circuit boards of other colors are relatively rare. Why is this? Some people say that the black PCB board represents high-end, is it true?
A printed circuit board (PCB) is usually composed of pads, vias, solder mask, silk screen, copper wires, various components and other parts. Among them, the solder mask (solder mask) refers to the part on the printed circuit board to be painted with green oil. In fact, solder resist inks are not only green, but also red, yellow, blue, purple, black, etc., but green is the most common.
The role of the solder mask:
(1) Prevent physical disconnection of conductor circuits;
(2) In the welding process, prevent short circuit caused by bridging;
(3) Solder only the parts that must be welded to avoid waste of solder;
(4) Reduce copper pollution in the butt welding tank;
(5) Prevent insulation deterioration and corrosion caused by external environmental factors such as dust and moisture;
(6) It has high insulation, which makes it possible to increase the density of the circuit.
Why are most of the PCB boards green? The main reasons are as follows:
1. Green is less irritating to the eyes. The teacher told us since childhood that green is good for the eyes; it protects the eyes and fights fatigue. Production and maintenance personnel are not prone to eye fatigue when staring at the PCB board for a long time, and the damage to the eyes is less.
2. Low cost. Since green is the mainstream in the production process, the purchase volume of natural green paint will be larger, and the purchase cost of green paint will be lower than other colors. At the same time, the use of the same color paint in mass production can also reduce the cost of line replacement.
3. When the board is soldered by SMT, it has to go through tinning, patching and final AOI verification. These processes all require optical positioning and calibration; the green background color is better for the recognition of the instrument.
Black PCB board is more high-end?
Since about 2007, people began to pay attention to the color of PCB boards. This is mainly because the high-end versions of ASUS, MSI and other first-line manufacturers have adopted black PCB color designs, so people gradually think that black PCB boards must be is high end. But in fact, this cognition is not correct.
The difference between black PCB and other color PCBs such as green PCB, blue PCB, yellow PCB, etc. is that the color of the final solder resist paint is different. If the PCB design and manufacturing process are exactly the same, the color will not have any impact on performance, nor will it have any impact on heat dissipation.
Regarding the black PCB, because the surface traces are almost completely covered, it will cause great difficulties for later maintenance, so it is a color that is not convenient to manufacture and use, and the black PCB is the most difficult for holes, so the yield rate is relatively low. It will be lower than other color PCB boards, so relatively speaking, the price of black will be a little more expensive.
The reason why there is a saying that "color represents high-end or low-end" is that manufacturers like to use black PCBs to manufacture high-end products, and use red, blue, green, yellow, etc. to manufacture low-end products. To sum it up in one sentence: the product gives the color meaning, not the color gives the product the meaning.
Whether it is a black PCB board or a green PCB board, a board with good performance and good heat dissipation is a good board.
